Learner Testing (Beta)

Many of the suggestions from the first round of learner testing were incorporated in the second test lesson.

A few users wanted more practice. A few learners wanted less practice. In the end I kept the practice the same. This was based on feedback from three learner that they didn't capture the definitions in the context. Since the students who had the benefit of the practice sessions were the ones who had perfect scores on the test, I think the extra practice was valuable to reinforce my version of the "truth" about certain words. Introducing a new definition for old words is really teaching a new relationship more than having the students memorize. Clicking the block that corresponds to the new relationship solidifies the relationship in the learner's short term memory.

I spent a lot of time tweaking the lesson material for position and alignment. I'm not entirely happy with the final outcome, but I discovered I could go on tweaking, saving, reloading, and testing for hours. Eventually I decided it was "acceptably good".

One of the tweaks was with the arrow labels. Another was with the colors on the practice buttons from lesson 1, for accessibility.

Finally, one learner discovered a problem with the Practice Quiz about prioritization. The questions allowed for multiple choices, but the directions never said "multiple choices are allowed". After adding a tag line "(There may be more than one)", the question target region was too small. Each slide had to be changed to accommodate the additional text.

The Final Product may not be perfect, but my learners all were able to pass the final 5 question test. That is probably more a testament to their skill than my ability writing instruction.

Name Score Comments Suggestions
Bill 5/5 Good test Are the answers case-sensitive?
Andy 5/5 Where's the next lesson?
Will 5/5 Those examples are a bit silly. Very hard to tailor examples for everyone. What if I had never seen or used a pressure washer?
Michelle 5/5 Now that I can prioritize by your method, what's next?
Sean 5/5 No problems. Might want to label the little arrow so I know to click it. Why's it a different color than the lessons?
Martha 5/5 The practice at the beginning helped me remember the three definitions during the final test.
