Yes, we always knew the ship went in circles. Now we have proof. No, go over *there*! No wait, over *there*. Oh heck, just go in a circle until we can figure this out. The ship uses the circle technique to determine the current and the way the ice is drifting. By breaking free a chunk of ice, they can watch which side of the cut opens up, and judge the vectors. The ice surface sometimes moves 1.5 - 2 knots!
